This looks like a manifestation of a bug in mailutils' CRLF filter, which
was fixed by commit bd385c4a:

Can you try apllying this patch? To do so, change to the source
directory of mailutils 3.4, and run 

 curl http://git.savannah.gnu.org/cgit/mailutils.git/patch/?id=bd385c4a \
     | patch -p1 -f

Then recompile mailutils. Please, let me know if it helps.
